Lunglei District was the first to experience a high incidence of Covid-19 with 43 positive cases detected on 6th June, 2020. However, the District Administration, in cooperation with Health Department Officials and VLTFs concerned, took swift action and effectively handled the situation. As a result of collective effort given by all the stakeholders, the pandemic situation in the District has been handled without any serious incidence till date and no death has been reported within the District so far.
A total of 42 Quarantine Facilities were set up within the District among which 22 facilities were identified as Government Quarantine Facilities and 20 were Community Quarantine Facilities. Out of the 22 Government Quarantine Facilities, 8 were located within Lunglei Town, 7 within Tlabung Sub Division and 7 facilities within Lungsen and Bunghmun RD Blocks. All of these facilities have since been discontinued as a result of decline in pandemic situation. Churches of different denominations played a vital role in effectively managing the pandemic by not only providing their facilities free of cost but also extending financial support for running of the facilities and fooding of the inmates. A total of 3,610 persons have been quarantined in these Quarantine Facilities so far.
Apart from the Quarantine Facilities, three (3) numbers of Covid Care Centres (CCC) and one (1) Dedicated Covid Health Centre (DCHC) were set up within the District for treating Covid-19 patients.Out of 15,566 tests conducted, there have been 418 positive cases detected within the District since the beginning of pandemic all of whom, except 1 active case, were treated in either CCC or DCHC and released after being cured and tested negative.
Further, 131 & 61 Battalions, BSF and construction companies like ABCI, BRN and Hydro Pvt. Ltd. have been operating Quarantine Facilities of their own which are being closely monitored by the District Administration.
