• Mizoram, Engineering College:

 

Mizoram Engineering College was inaugurated on 3rd February, 2019 by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The college is expected to function soon with 3 departments viz., Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. It is located at Pukpui, about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) from Lunglei. The College was constructed at a cost of Rs. 26.00 crores under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) Scheme and has an administrative block, laboratory, library, cafeteria, student common room, boys and girls hostel. It was built to accommodate up to 300 students. The approach road, water and power requirements are still to be completed.

 

  • Lunglei By Pass Road from MausepPeng to Sazaikawn:

 

Lunglei bypass road is proposed to bifurcate from 147.200 kmp (near R. Zirkunga’s Teak plantation) on Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei road and end at Sazaikawn. The proposed road length is around 29 kms. Preparation of detailed Project Report is being done by Pie Engineering Consultant and the DPR will be completed within March, 2021.

            There is fund provision of Rs. 900.00 lakh for this project. With its provision, around 4 Kms of road formation cutting including construction of Culverts and Retaining Wall will be started in the first phase. Identification of land owners along the proposed road alignment is ongoing.

 

  • Mizoram University (Southern Campus):

The Central Government has agreed to the establishment of Southern campus of Mizoram University in Lunglei Town. The land has been identified at Mausep, Pukpui and formal allocation of land for the Institution is under process. This, when established, is expected to greatly benefit students and the general population of the southern Districts.

 

 

  • Installation of 25 MVA Transformers at Kawmzawl

 

To meet the much needed power requirement for the whole southern region of Mizoram, two (2) transformers having capacity of 25 MVA are being installed at Kawmzawl, Pukpui which is expected to be completed this calendar year. When the installation is successfully completed, it will benefit the people of all southern region of the state. Better and more regular power supply will be available within and the adjoining villages of Lunglei town. Similarly, the western belt of Lunglei District including Tlabung, Lungsen, Chawngte towns etc. will avail power supply more regularly. Further, irregularity of power supply to the southern part of Mizoram that is getting power supply through Siaha and Lawngtlai sub stations will be substantially compensated. The project will also help provide better water supply within Lunglei town which has always been handicapped by irregular power supply to water pump maintained by PHE Department.

 

  • Construction of 2 lane road along NH 302 (Lunglei to Tlabung) &NH54A (Hrangchalkawn to 3 gate): 

Process for widening and Up-gradation of National Highway from Lunglei to Tlabung(NH302)and Hrangchalkawn to 3 Gate (NH 54A)under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways are being initiated. Preliminary Surveys have alreadybeencompleted.

 

  • Cleanliness Award

Lunglei has recently been awarded First Prize(Overall cleanest Town & 1st Rank District Hqtrs.)inboth thetwo (2) categories of state-wide cleanliness competitions such as (i) Competition amongDistrict Headquartersand (ii) Competition among all Census Townsof the State conducted under the initiatives of Urban Development & Poverty alleviation Department.
